‘Wave Maker Tour’ to Visit 30 MLB Ballparks in 30 Days to Raise Awareness About Child Drowning Prevention

Father transforms the loss of his young son into a nationwide mission to save lives through America’s pastime

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – July 2026 – Drowning is one of the leading causes of death for young children in the United States. It is also one of the most preventable. This summer, one father is turning unimaginable personal tragedy into a nationwide movement to save children’s lives by visiting all 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in 30 days to raise awareness and funding for water safety and drowning prevention.

After his 2-year-old son, Jasper, suffered a fatal drowning, Jonathan St. Clair made a promise: no family should have to endure the heartbreak his family experienced. That promise has become the Wave Maker Tour, a cross-country campaign that combines America’s pastime with a life-saving public safety message.

On March 19, 2014, Jonathan and his wife suffered the devastating loss of Jasper, who drowned in a backyard swimming pool while under the care of a babysitter. The tragedy forever changed their lives, but it also inspired a mission. Determined to ensure Jasper’s story would help save other children, they founded the Jasper Ray Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to drowning prevention, water safety education, and child safety awareness.

Recognizing that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4 in the United States, Jonathan is now taking that mission across the country.

Beginning Friday, July 17, at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, and concluding Saturday, August 15, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, the Wave Maker Tour will stop at every Major League Baseball stadium over 30 consecutive days. Along the way, Jonathan will meet with families, supporters, media outlets, and water safety advocates while encouraging communities to make drowning prevention a priority.

The campaign’s fundraising goal is $662,000—representing $1,000 for each of the 662 days Jasper was alive. Funds raised throughout the tour will support:

  • Water safety education for families
  • Swim lesson scholarships for children
  • Community drowning prevention initiatives
  • Resources that help families protect children around water

“Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up and experience life’s greatest moments,” said St. Clair. “Jasper never got the chance to play baseball, visit a Major League ballpark, or grow into the person he was meant to become. If visiting 30 stadiums in 30 days inspires even one family to learn about water safety and prevents another child from drowning, then every mile traveled will be worth it.”

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drowning remains the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, and many incidents occur during brief lapses in supervision. Safety experts emphasize that drowning is often fast, silent, and preventable through layers of protection, including constant adult supervision, pool barriers, swim lessons, water competency education, and CPR training.

The Wave Maker Tour seeks to unite baseball fans, families, water safety advocates, and communities around a cause that transcends sports. Every stadium stop provides an opportunity to educate families, spark conversations, and encourage simple actions that can save lives.

Supporters nationwide can follow Jonathan’s journey, attend tour stops in their communities, donate to the campaign, and help amplify the message that child drowning is preventable.
